Khushbir Singh Shaad Biography

Khushbir Singh Shaad is an Indian writer who writes Urdu poetry. He has already published 7 collections of Urdu poetry published in Devnagri and Urdu script. He is a recipient of Yash Bharti Award in 2014. He has been publishing works since early 1990s. Some of his published works include - Jaane Kab Yeh Mausam Badle, Geeli Mitti, Chalo Kuch Rang Hi Bikhrey, Zara Yeh Dhoop Dhal Jaye, Bekhawabiyan, Jahan Tak Zindagi Hai, Bikharne Se Zara Pehle, Lahoo Ki Dhoop, Baat Andar ke Mausam Ki and Shehar Ke Shor Se Juda. He is Lucknow’s very own local shayar who received 'Best Poet of the Year' award in 2008.

Khushbir Singh Shaad hails from Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. He released his first book Jaane Kab Yeh Mausam Badle in 1992, and by that time he started learning Urdu script. The author is well-known for writing brilliant thought provoking lines and is quite popular in Lucknow circle. Shaad has also penned verses for Bollywood movies like Dhokha, where he penned the title track. A Shayar with global fan following, he writes in both Hindi and Urdu languages. Most of his readers are from India, Pakistan, UK, USA, Middle East and Norway who speak Hindi and Urdu both.

He started learning Urdu when he published his first book in 1992 at the age of 40. His guru Wali Asi who was a very revered poet in Lucknow advised him to do so. In his opinion without knowing Urdu every poet is incomplete in his poetic expressions, and made a promise from Shaad that he would learn Urdu in one year. Shaad kept his promise, and he published his second book - Geeli Mitti (1998) in Urdu.  He doesn’t belong to a family with literal background. Yet he used to listen to poems since the age of 14. Then he bought a book on poetry by Hind Pocket books, and his interest in penning lyrics developed only after that.
