Karthika Mathew Biography

Karthika Mathew, popularly known as Karthika is a south Indian film actress. She played the role of Prithviraj’s wife, Aswathi Thampuratti in 2004 Blockbuster, Vellinakshatram which was one of her earliest breaks. Nam Naadu and Dindigul Sarathy are her noted Tamil movies in which she played lead roles. Naam Naadu is the remake of the Malayalam film Lion, in which she reprised the role of Kavya Madhavan. She was casted opposite Sarath Kumar in this movie. Dindigul Sarathy is the remake of Malayalam classic, Vadakkunokkiyentram in which Karthika played lead role opposite Karunas. ‘Paalaivanachcholai’ was her third Tamil release and in 2009, she married her boyfriend, Merin Mathew, a Pharmaceutical industrialist in America and got settled in USA. Merin originally belongs to Kollam, Kerala.

 

Her real name is Lidiya Jacob and she changed her screen name to Karthika for Malayalam movies. She started her career as a model and appeared in many ads before making her big screen debut. In Malayalam she was mostly seen in supporting roles. She appeared in Malayalam movies like Vellinakshatram, Meesa Madhavan, Pulival Kalyanam, Athiyasayan, Black cat, Twenty:20, Aparichithan, Malsaram, Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan, Anyar, Njan Salpperu Ramankutty and Kattuchembakam. She played paarlell lead in Kattuchembakam, while appeared as Jayasurya’s sister in Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan. She played one among the three female leads in the film based on Ouija board and spiritualism, Aparichitan.

 

She played lead role opposite Kunchacko Boban in Five Fingers (2005) and parallel lead opposite Jayaram in 2006 Kanaka Simhasanam. After a struggling period in Malayalam film industry, she moved to Tamil and got success and popularity through the movies, Nam Naadu and Dindigul Sarathy. Naalai Namadhe, Ayvar Pattalam, Aarumaname, Magizhchi and Palaivana Solai are her other Tamil releases.
