Jagdish Chaturvedi (poet) Biography

Jagdish Chaturvedi was a prolific writer and poet related to Hindi literature, known for his works in the 1900s and later. He was a recipient of many honours and awards including Padma Shri by government of India and Mahakavi Bihari Award. He hailed from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, and passed away in 2015 86. He has been associated with All India Radio and served as an editor in the Central Hindi Directorate during his lifetime. He was honoured Padma Shri in 2003 for his outstanding contributions towards Hindi literature. Apart from several poetry collections, he has also published a few in prose genre.

Jagdish Chaturvedi was born in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh on 15 August 1929. He held a master's degree in Philosophy, and after completing his studies, he worked as a lecturer at Madhav College, Ujjain for many years. He later worked in All India Radio and the Central Hindi Directorate also. Known to be a promoter of Hindi language in the 20^th century, most of his works belonged to poetry genre. He also visited worldwide to promote Hindi writings and poetry, and has been honoured multiple times during his visits.

Jagdish Chaturvedi passed away on 17^th September in 2015 at Delhi, where he spent his last years. He was 82 years old and was suffering with long term sickness. His funeral was performed at Delhi. A couple of years before his death, he was honoured with Saraswat Honour by Madhya Pradesh Government at his Delhi premises. His efforts to connect Hindi language with those non-Hindi speakers is worth mentioning. Prem Sambandhon Ki Kahaniyan, Ramvilas Sharma Parvarti Punjivad Aur Sahityetihas Ki Samasyaen, Sampradayikta Atankvad Aur Janmadhyam, Stri Kavyadhara, Stri Asmita Sahitya Aur Vichardhara etc are among his published works belonging to poetry and non-fiction genres.
