Arokia Rajiv Biography

Arokia Rajiv is an Indian athlete from Tamil Nadu. He is a track and field athlete who competes in the 400 metres event. He won a bronze medal in 400 m in 2014 Incheon Asian Games. In 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, he was a team member of Mixed 4 x 400 m relay event for which India won a silver medal. He was also a team member of 4 x 400 m relay event for India at Asian Championships held at Bhubaneswar in 2017 which won gold medal. He is associated with international sports events since 2013 and has participated in Asian Championships and Asian Games twice and also Commonwealth Games once.

 

Arokia Rajiv was born on 22 May 1991, in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. He was born into a poor family and did hard work to reach a position where he is right now. His father works as a van driver with a school. Rajiv did his schooling from Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Lalgudi, and later did graduation from St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli. Rajiv began his career as a long jumper, before he switched on to running races. He attempted 400 meter races, and succeeded in it. As of now he has not participated in any event except 400 m or 4 x 400 m relays.

 

His first major competition was Asian Championships in 2013, where he finished 6th in the individual 400 metre event, and 4th at relay event. He came to limelight after winning a bronze in individual 400 m the following year. He clocked 45.92 seconds in this event. Since then he has represented India in many events.
