Arin Paul Biography

Arin Paul is a Bengali film director and writer who has done a few documentaries, commercials and short films. He came to limelight with his directed, 10:10, a commercial film. It included popular Bengali actors like Soumitra Chatterjee, Aparajita Ghosh Das and Claudia Ciesla. His second feature film, Sabdhan Pancha Aashche starring Rudranil Ghosh and June Malia is yet to be released. A short film on rel.igion, …and there wasn’t ever after…, Just Like That and Terrorist are his short films. Nripen Ganguly (2011) and Jyanto Durga (Durga Live) (2010) are his noted documentary works. He has also directed Aajke - A daily show for Kolkata TV (365 episodes) and Coffee & More - A film magazine show for Zee Bangla (71 episodes).

Paul was born in Belur, West Bengal in the year 1980. His father was a professional photographer and mother, a housewife. His schooling was done at different schools like St. Edmund's School, Shillong, Andrew's High (H.S.) School, Kolkata and Scottish Church Collegiate School, Kolkata. He graduated in accountancy at Syamaprasad College, Kolkata. Then he completed his diploma in film-making at the Asian Academy of Film & Television in Noida. Later he worked as an assistant director at Noida and Delhi, before moving to Kolkata.

He also directed three documentaries for an NGO in Rajasthan. After moving to Kolkata, he became assistant director of Bengali film director Anjan Dutt in 2003. Later he worked for 5 years as an assistant under Partha Sen, Anindita Sarbadhicari and Anindo Banerjee. During this time he made advertisements for Kolkata Traffic Police and in 2008, he worked as a Project Trainer of the Video Documentation Project for which he was awarded the Youth Achiever of the Year award from Rotary Club, Kolkata. In the same year he shot his debut short film ‘…and there wasn’t everafter…’. It was screened at the Himachal Film Festival on 13 May 2011.
