Ujjain The City Of Temples.

 

Ujjain is one of the ancient city of India. Situated on the bank of holy river Kshipra it is said that during churning of ocean by Gods and demons they discover a pot of nectar (amrit) so there was a fight among them to have the drop of nectar first to become immortal. And during the chase a drop of nectar fell in the city Ujjain which made it holy.

How to reach Ujjain: One can board direct train from New Delhi Railway station. Ujjain having a railway station in the city and major trains having the stoppage there.

Places to see in Ujjain: Being the city of temples one can see lots of famous temples there. Most popular one is Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple.

Historical places to see in Ujjain:

# Mahakaal Temple is one of the twelve jyotirlinga temple in India. This is visited by lots of devotees daily especially on Monday to worship Lord Shiva. Its treat to see bhasm Aarti in the morning for which one has to take pass to enter the temple to see this aarti. There are limited passes which are given to the visitors and its really tough to get pass in so much of crowd. Ash of human cremated body is taken and is applied to the jyotirlinga there to decorate it. It’s really worth to see the aarti in the morning and said to be luck if someone gets a chance to see it.

# The Sandipani Aashram is said to be the place wher Lord Krishna took his education along with Sudama.

# The throne of King Vikramaditya Known as judgment seat is located in Rudra Sagar lake.

# Siddhavat is a banyan tree which is considered to be a sacred tree is situated on the bank of Kshipra river and is said to be planted by Goddess Parvati.

# Bharhtari Caves is an ancient place which is associated with the king Bharthari.

# Kal Bhairav temple situated on the bank of holy river Kshipra is devoted for worship of Kal bhairav.

# Other temples to visit in Ujjain are ISKON temple, Gopal Mandir, Triveni, Gadkalika, Ganesh temple, Siddhinath temple.

Around 150 Kms away from Ujjain towards to Khandawa is situated Omkareshwar temple which is also one of the jyotirlinga temples. Situated on the bank of Narmada River it’s an ancient temple of Lord Shiva. Lots of devotees visit this temple especially on Mondays of Sawan month.

Kumbh Mela: Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the biggest religious Mela on the earth and Ujjain is one of the place where this Mela is arranged.
