The Jaipur Airport: The Only International Airport Of Rajasthan

The city of Jaipur, also popularly known as the Pink City, in Rajasthan, forms a huge tourist attraction, not only for Indians but for foreigners as well, due to monuments like the Hawah Mahal, the Jantar Mantar, the formal gardens, the Nahargarh Fort etc. As the times have been changing, Jaipur has certainly moved with them and joined the massive herd of contemporary times and become one of India’s business centres. The Jaipur Airport is the first and only international airport in the whole state of Rajasthan, India.  The Jaipur Airport was finally given the title of an international airport on the twenty fifth of December 2009. The civil apron of the airport of Jaipur can easily accommodate four A320 aeroplanes and the newly constructed terminal block is capable of handling around 500 passengers at any given time. There are upcoming plans, to extend the length of the runway to 12,000 feet (3658 metres) and also expand the new terminal building further to be able to handle about 1000 passengers every hour.

The newly constructed domestic terminal block at the Jaipur Airport was inaugurated on the 1st of July 2009. The new airport terminal block has an area of 22,950 square meters and is constructed from a glass and a steel structure, having all the modern passenger centric facilities like central air conditioning, central heating system, inclined arrival baggage claim carousels,  public address system, escalators, CCTV  camera’s for security surveillance, inline x-ray baggage checking system integrated with a departure conveyer belt system, the flight information display system (FIDS), car parking, airport check-in counters with Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) etc. The new International Terminal Building at its peak hour, has an accommodation capacity, and also handling capacity of around 500 passengers and hence an annual handling capacity of around 4 lakh passengers.

The airport in Jaipur has a fantastic entrance gate, which is made of Dholpur stones and sandstone, and on its walls are Rajasthani Paintings, giving the tourists a small glimpse of the culture and diversity of Rajasthan. Two big fountains on either side of the terminal, surrounded by palm trees, maintain a normal temperature within the premises of the airport. The side walls of the airport’s terminal building have adjustable shades, and hence the passage of sunlight into the terminal block can be controlled.
