Ranikhet

Ranikhet is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. Ranikhet located in Uttarakhand state in the lap of Himalayas is famous for Fruit gardens, food-processing units and medicines manufacturing units. To reach to Ranikhet tourists can avail the government bus services available from all major cities in North India including Delhi. The last railway station is Kathgodam but most tourists get down at Haldwani a few km before Kathgodam to avail better facilities.

Natural beauty

Snow clad mountains, valleys full of Deodar and cheer trees, cool breeze and a dreamy atmosphere is perhaps the best description of Ranikhet situated at about 1830 meter above the sea level. Ranikhet is an army cantonment therefore under strict vigilance of army rules therefore is comparatively clean and disciplined than some of the other similar places.

If we go little back into the history of the place, queen Padmini wife of King Sudhardev was so fascinated seeing the place that she had made it her permanent residence and spent some time here.

Ranikhet does not receive too many tourists because it is located in between Neonatal and Almorah but this is blessing in disguise for the tourists who prefer peaceful places to the crowded tourist destinations. However, despite having lower number of tourists, Ranikhet has all the necessary facilities of a modern tourists’ destination including hotels and restaurants and beautiful spots. Some of the important places are-

Choubatiya Garden- This is the main point of the city where roads from different direction meet at a particular point. There are many gardens and tourist spots located at Choubatiya. Besides these gardens, ‘The government garden and food research center’ is one of the main visitor attractions.  

There are many famous temples in Ranikhet including Kali temple, Mankameshwer, Jhuladevi (7km), dwarhat (38km) which have historical values.

Apart from these famous temples, visitors interested in golf can visit a 9-hole golf course. Tourists go to visit Bhaludam about 3 km away from the city. Ranikhet is big attraction for trekking lover for its beautiful slopes. People interested in Trekking activities can contact Mountaineering Club for the purpose. Ranikhet organizes Cultural programs round the year. Some of the famous programs organized include Nanda Devi Fare, Dwarhat Fare, Summer and Autumn Festival and Navratri Mela. The best time to visit – April to June and October to March.
