The Mumbai Indians have come out victorious in the Champions League T20 2013, claiming the trophy for the second time since its inception in 2008. They had previously won the league back in 2011. In this year’s final, Mumbai Indians defeated another IPL team – Rajasthan Royals to come out as the winners.

The score of 202 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs, is the highest in the Champions League T20 until now. The score was successfully defended as Mumbai won the match by 33 runs with 7 balls to spare. This match was the talk of the town as two Indian legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid were playing their last match in colored clothes.

In their previous outing as a finalist team, Mumbai Indians had defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore. They were able to successfully defend a small target of 140 runs. Mumbai had won that match by 31 runs then. The match was played at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The victory this season means a fitting tribute to the god of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar had already announced retirement from ODIs (One Day Internationals). When Mumbai won the IPL (Indian Premier League) this year some weeks back, Tendulkar had announced his retirement from IPL as well.

The CLT20 final played this year was a feast of runs as batsmen from both sides made merry. In the match, a total of 371 runs were scored off 38.5 overs for the loss of 16 wickets.

The top order batsmen scored freely and heavily to give the innings a perfect start. However, the Mumbai batsmen were a bit to start off the blocks, though they picked up scoring speed later. But as the Rajasthan Royals knew exactly how many runs they needed to score, they got off to a flying start.

However, a heap of wickets fail towards the end of their innings. The rate at which the wickets fail was so fast that even before the full quota of 20 was bowled, the Rajasthan team was bowled out.

With this win, Mumbai Indians have pocketed both titles this year – they are the IPL 2013 winners and now are also the CLT20 champs.
