Is It Brilliant Indian Batting Or Poor Australian Bowling

The way the Indian batsmen approached the first innings against Australia, it was difficult to decide one thing, was it the brilliance of the batsmen or was it poor Australian bowling due to which India could post such a huge total. Well, it is difficult to say it in one thought. And at the same time, it will also be unfair to do so.

Why would it be unfair? That’s because, Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara batted like their life depended on these innings. Apart from these two players, most of the other Indian batsmen were dismissed playing either loose strokes or irresponsible shots. It will not be correct to say that all played in that fashion, however, a wicket of Harbhajan Singh can prove that.

Virat Kohli was unlucky to be dismissed to be caught at backward short leg. At other times, he would have put the ball away, but it was not going to be this time, at least. This shows that he was a bit unlucky to get out that way. To top it all, the ball stuck in Cowan’s hand and he didn’t spill it to the agony of Virat Kohli.

M S Dhoni was a spectacle to watch. He batted as if he was batting in a T20 match and that he had to chase down a big score. He scored 44 runs in 43 balls – a strike rate of more than 100. He was on a rampage hitting as many as 8 fours in the process. He really went after the bowling and helped India score some fast runs. Had he been there at the crease for at least another half an hour or so, we could have seen another century from him.

As far as the Australian bowling is concerned, it must be admitted that the pace bowlers were hardly effective considering the fact that it was Bhuvaneshwar Kumar who had rattled the Aussie top order. James Pattinson, who had picked up a five-wicket haul in the last match, seemed to have lost his sting either. That is why probably India was able to score a mountain of runs and took such a healthy lead.
