Kailash Mansarovar
Among all the religious journey in Himalayas the journey to Kailash Mansarovar is perhaps the most testing and difficult journeys. A person visiting Kailash Mansarovar from India must stay in Tibet for almost three weeks crossing over Himalayas unlike other religious places in Himalayas where a traveler reaches his destination easily.
People going to Mansarovar Kailash, travel mostly in groups with programs chalked out well in advance. People from other countries can travel through different routs and can reach to Kailash Mansarovar by air also taking a helicopter ride beginning from Kathmandu via Pokhra. They can take a cable car ride via Kurintar for Manokamna temple a journey to fulfill all their wishes then proceed to Pokhara for further journey to Kailash Mansarovar.
Indian pilgrims
Mansarovar Lake situated in Tibet now under China. Indian travelers must obtain permission before starting this journey, which allows limited number of visitors per year from every country. A medical fitness certificate is must because this is not an ordinary journey and not every one can complete it unless fully fit. The Mansarovar lake is right there on the foot of Kailash Parvat, called Gana Parvat or Rajatgiri also.
The place remains under the cover of snow round the year due to its location about 22,000 ft above the sea level. According to common belief, the place described as Meru Parvat or Mansa is also the same where according to Purans gods Shiva, Brahma and many saints and demons stayed for long periods to complete their Tapasya. There is also mention of visits by Vyas, Krishna, Datratrey, Bhim and Adi Shankrachrya etc to this particular area. Jains call this area as ‘Astapada’ with a belief that first of their Tirthankars, Rishbh Dev received his divine knowledge at this place. Believers of Buddha sect call the place as ‘Anavtapta’.
Importance of Parikrma
The holy Parikrma of Mansarovar is one of the most important of activities a person having faith can go through. People from Tibet believe in 3 or 13 rounds very important round the Lake and many of them complete it by going in lying positions called ‘Dandpranipat’. They trust that one round is good for moksha for one birth, 10 for multiple births and 108 forever. Mansarovar is calling again, people willing to go to this heavenly destination must have them registered for the same.
