A Look At Players Who Scored Consecutive 150+ Scores In Tests

Cricket is always known to be a batsman’s game. No wonder, discussing the records set by batsmen is more interesting to talk about than anything else in this game. In the recently concluded third Test match, there were a couple of such records created in the name of Murali Vijay. Let us have a look at them and the other associated names.

We will first have a look at the Indian batsmen who scored more than 150 runs in two innings in a row in Test cricket.

Vijay Hazare

The first batman to achieve this feat – of scoring two 150+ scores in Test matches goes to Vijay Hazare. He scored these two centuries against England way back in the 1951-52 season. His first score was 164 not out in Delhi. The second innings he played was in Mumbai. There he scored 155 runs.

Dilip Vengsarkar

It took as many as 36 years for such a similar record to be rewritten. It was materialized by Dilip Vengsarkar in 1986-87. Playing against Sri Lanka in Nagpur, Vengsarkar scored 153 runs. Against the same opposition, he scored 168 runs in Cuttack.

Vinod Kambali

During the 1992-93 season, Vinod Kambali was in full form. He in had scored two double centuries. He first scored 224 runs against England in Mumbai. As if that wasn’t enough, he went on to score 227 runs, this time against Zimbabwe at Delhi.

Virender Sehwag

How could the list be complete without Virender Sehwag? The Nawab first scored 151 runs against Australia in Adelaide in 2007-08. Then after coming back to India, playing against South Africa in Chennai, Sehwag scored 319 runs – one of his two triple tons in Test cricket.

Murali Vijay

The current season – 2012-13, produced another such record, this time for Murali Vijay. He first scored 167 in Hyderabad and then followed that innings with a masterly 153 in Mohali.  Both these scores came against Australia.

As far as playing against Australia is concerned, apart from Murali Vijay there were two batsmen earlier who had scored two 150+ scores against them.

Wally Hammond (England)

Playing for England, Wally Hammond had two great knocks against Australia in Australia. In the 1928-29 season, he scored 251 runs in Sydney and followed that knock with 200 runs in Melbourne.

David Grower (England)

David Grower had two such 150+ knocks against Australia that came in 1985. First in Birmingham he scored 215 runs and then at The Oval, Grower scored 157 runs.
