Wood Ville is one of the ancient buildings of Shimla. In 1865, it was used as the residence of the Commander in Chief in Mansfield. This building was bought by Sir James Walker in 1881 and then it went to the hands of the Alliance Bank.

In 1923, Raja Rana Sir Bhagat Chand of Jubbal bought this and converted it into his summer palace. A hotel is housed in this at present. It is surrounded by pine and deodar trees and well groomed lawns and serves as a refuge of people seeking peace from the madding crowd.
