Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan is also known as Sanjay Gandhi Botanical and Zoological Garden and was opened to the public in 1973. It is one of the largest of its kind in South Asia and was originally established as a Botanical Garden in 1969 and was later converted into Zoological Garden.

 

There are more than 800 animals of 110 species found here together with 300 species of trees, herbs and shrubs. There is an orchid house, fern house, rose garden and a glass house. Some of the animals housed here are elephants, Himalayan black bear, black bucks, giraffe, zebra, emu, white peacock, jackal and spotted deer and 35 species of fish and 5 species of snakes.
