Chamundi Hills in Mysore

Chamundi Hills is located near Mysore at an elevation of 1000 meters. According to the Hindu mythology, the Goddess Chamundeswari killed the demon king Mahishashura here at this place and so it got this name. From this hill top, you can see the panoramic view of the city below.
There is a long stone stairway here that would take you to the top of the hill. It has totally 1180 steps and on the way, there is a large Nandi statue of 16 feet high and 25 feet long. These steps and the statue were constructed during the rule of Dodda Devaraja Wodeyar in 1664. There are regular buses to this place and you can view the statue from within them.
