La Martiniere is an educational institution in Lucknow. This has an important role in the Great Revolt of 1857 and so this is the only school in the world to have been awarded royal battle honours. Constantia is the palatial building here which was built in 1785 and served as the residence of the Major General Claude Martin. He had no heirs and so his estate was later established into schools as per his will. This has been made the mausoleum of Martin. The boys of this school served to collect provisions and they did various odd jobs during the revolt of 1857 for the inhabitants of the British Residency. So this building has an important place in the history of India.
