Willingdon Island is a part of Kochi and is a tiny natural island. It is the home of the Kochi Naval Base of the Indian Navy. The Central Institute of Fisheries Technology is located here. When the Vembanad Lake was deepened to construct the Kochi Port in 1936, the dredged out soil was used to create this island. The first building of the island belongs to the engineer of the project, Robert Bristow. It serves as a link between the city and other seaports of the world.
