Falaknuma Palace is one of the beautiful palaces of Hyderabad and it was owned by Nizams. It spreads over an area of about 32 acres of land and is situated at a distance of 5 kilometers from Charminar. Nawab Vikar Ul Umra built this palace. The name Falaknuma means the mirror of the sky in Urdu language.

The palace was designed by an English architect and the construction started on 3rd March 1884. It was built in the shape of a scorpion with two stings. The building includes kitchen, Gol Bangala, Zenana Mahal and harem. It is a blend of Italian and Tudor architecture. It has 220 well decorated rooms and 22 spacious halls. The jade collection here is unique of its kind in the world. It has a walnut carved roof which is a replica of Windsor Castle. This palace has one of the largest electrical switchboards in India. The palace came under the maintenance of Taj Hotels in 2000 and in November 2010 it was converted into a hotel.
