Charminar is a historical building established in 1591 and the name means four towers in Urdu language. There are four grand arches that support this minaret and it is situated on the east bank of River Musi. Charminar was built by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fifth ruler of Qutb Shahi dynasty.

 

The building was made of granite, limestone, mortar and pulverized marble. The building is square in shape each side measuring 20 meters in its length. There is a minaret on each corner. Each one of them is about 56 meters in height and has double balcony. There are 149 steps that lead to the upper floor. Around this monument is the laad bazaar which is famous for bangles.
