This lake was established by the wife of Tajn Khan Nari Ali, the Mughal ruler of Ahmedabad. It was originally a water reservoir to provide water for the people of the city. It is also used for the purpose of irrigation. Beside this lake is situated the tomb of Shah Alam the dome of which was ornamented with precious stones. The domes of this tomb were carved by Saleh Badakshi and there are totally three big domes and eighteen small domes.
