Octagonal tower is also called Musamman Burj and Saman Burj and is located within the premises of the Agra Fort close to the Mina Masjid and Diwan-i-Khas. This grand tower was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.

It was in this octagonal tower that Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son Aurangazeb and he spent the last seven years of his life at this place. Taj Mahal is visible from this place at a distance. The tower was so designed to allow the cool breeze of River Yamuna inside making it a pleasurable place to live in.

The tower is constructed with marble lattices and has a balcony and a fountain in its central portion. Its open pavilion makes it very charming. The clear view of Taj Mahal is at present diminished due to pollution.
