Buland Darwaza means great gate in Persian language. This is situated in Fatehpur Sikri, the city built by Mughal Emperor Akbar. This is a lofty gateway constructed in 1601 A.D. to commemorate the victory of Akbar over Gujarat and is also called the Gate of Magnificence.

 

Buland Darwaza is a semi octagonal in structure with pillars and chhatris. It is 40 meters in height and the total height from the ground is 54 meters. It is situated in the southern entrance of the city. Buland Darwaza is considered to be the highest of its kind in the world and is made of red and buff sandstone.
