Yugi Sethu Biography
Yugi Sethu is a well known screen writer of Tamil movies. He has also directed a few movies and has appeared on screen in lead as well as supporting roles. He wrote, directed and played the Title role in Doordarshan produced famous tele-film "Jana" in 1989. As a director, his movies are "Maathangal Aezhu" and "Kavithai Paada Neramillai". He is a native of Oothukaadu, a small town near Kumbakkonam. He has appeared in cameo roles in Kamal Hassan movies like – Panchathantram (2002), Pammal. K. Sambandham (2002) and Anbe sivam (2003). He has also appeared in friendly role in A. R. Murugadoss’s movie, Ramana in 2002. He has a few unfinished projects including feature films, documentaries and short films in his account. He has also written the scripts of Tamil movies – Villain and Aasal. Yuhi is currently doing his Ph.D in Film Aesthetics.
Yugi did his graduation in commerce and post graduation in political science. Yet he was more inclined towards art subjects and had learnt mridangam in his childhood. He is a Gold Medalist in Film Direction from FTIT. His student film, "The Rhetoric of the Continuity" was the only Indian film to get entry to International Film Festival of India, New Delhi in 1984. He has visited the Cannes Film festival several times since 1994 and has worked as the distributor of Shekar Kapur's "Bandit Queen" in Tamil Nadu.
Apart from Tamil, he has also been associated with many international projects. He has acted in Italian Telefilm named Pidgin. He acted in Scream of the Ants (2006) in Persian/English directed by doyen of world cinema, Mohsen Makhmalbaf. Yuhi was the line producer for the French production of the documentary film Kalaiyur directed by Sophie Martre. He is also known for his late night talk show - Nayyandi Darbar, telecasted in Vijay TV.
