Vishal Anand Biography

Vishal Anand is a Bollywood hero and director of 1970s, best known for the movie – Chalte Chalte (1976). The evergreen track – Chalte Chalte Meri Yeh Geet Yaad Rakhna, was pictured on him. The song composed by Bappi Lahiri and sung Kishore Kumar was part of the Binaca Geetmala annual list 1976. Bhisham Kohli is the real name of Vishal Anand who is also a film producer and credited to giving Bappi Lahiri the first break to Bollywood films, through his production venture. This actor is still remembered for the song, ‘Chalte Chalte’ penned by Amit Khanna and the film was a hit. Vishal acted in only a few movies, and couldn’t gain success as an actor.

Vishal Anand is the nephew of Dev Anand and his brothers – Vijay Anand and Chetan Anand, the great three pillars of Bollywood. Noted actress Kalpana Karthik is his aunt and Suneil Anand is his cousin. Vishal Anand is the son of Dev Anand’s sister. Vishal is the uncle of Bollywood actor Purab Kohli. Vishal and both his brothers Yash and Harsh Kohli are film producers. Vishal’s real name is Bhisham Kohli and he used his real name for his first few films. He changed his name to Vishal Anand synonymous to his successful uncles and tasted success through the movie, Chalte Chalte, which he attempted as a producer as well. The movie was directed by Sunder Dar and Simi Garewal played the key role in this film. The movie also starred newcomer, Nazneen as Vishal’s girlfriend.

He started his film career in 1970 with the film - Hamara Adhikar and was later seen in the movies, Sa-Re-Ga-Ma-Pa (1972), Taxi Driver (1973), Intezaar (1973), Hindustan Ki Kasam (1973) etc, till Chalte Chalte happened in 1976. Most of these movies including Taxi Driver and Hindustan Ki Kasam were produced by his uncles. In 1978 he directed one film - Dil Se Mile Dil, where he played the lead role as well. He bought the magic duo Bappi Lahiri and Amit Khanna to this project once again. The movie was a surprise hit. Yet it couldn’t revive the career of Vishal. In 1980 he directed one family drama – Kismat with Mithun Chakraborty and Ranjeeta Kaur playing the lead role. He directed Maine Jeena Sikh Liya in 1982.
