Vinay Apte Biography

Vinay Apte was a Bollywood and Marathi actor known for portraying character and supporting roles. Chandni Bar, Dhamaal, Aarakshan, Gangajal, Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, It's Breaking News, Satyagraha and Rajneeti are among the memorable roles he played onscreen. He was also associated with a production house. He passed away on December 7, 2013 at Mumbai at the age of 62, following breathing problems. The cause of his death was multiple organ failure and secondary to acute coronary syndrome as reported by doctors. 'Jogwa', 'Satyagraha' and 'Aarakshan' are the most memorable roles and he was a veteran and popular actor of Marathi cinema with 40 years of long experience in the film industry.

 

He was born in Mumbai in 1951. He started his acting career as a stage actor and has been associated with Marathi Theater since early 1970s. His professional career began in 1974 with Vijay Tendulkar’s Mitrachi Goshta. Later he directed numerous plays in his theater career and is known for his controversial Marathi play, Me Nathuram Godse Boltoy. The play was criticized for the subject of Gandhiji’s assassination. He was also associated with television apart from movies and theatre. He was regularly featured in Prakash Jha’s movies and he was casted in powerful roles, Satyagraha, Gangajal, Chakravyuh and Aarakshan being the best instances.

 

He has been busy with television in the recent times and has appeared in popular television series like Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, Adalat, Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta etc. He also appeared in the Marathi soap Durva. He was shooting for a Bollywood film at Shimla when he was attacked by breathing problems and he succumbed to death.
