Vijayaraghavan Biography

Vijayaraghavan is a popular actor of Malayalam cinema known for character roles. He has also done negative shades in his film career. He entered movies during 80’s, successful since late 80’s and now he is handling aged roles of father, uncle and villain in Malayalam cinema. He has numerous memorable roles in his career and 90’s was the golden era of this successful actor. His father N. N. Pillai was a versatile film actor and stage actor, for famous for his leading role in record breaking Malayalam movie – Godfather. Vijayaraghavan has been the part of many successful action movies of Malayalam in supporting roles, where the leading roles were played by Mammootty, Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi. His roles as police officer and politician are really memorable.

 

Vijayaraghavan made his debut with Kaapaalika in the year 1973 in a bit role. He also appeared in the Malayalam remake of Madhumati, Picnic released two years later. But none of these roles were significant and he was too young. As an actor, his real debut happened during early 80’s.  In Surumayitta Kannukal (1983) he played a full-fledged role. Yet it took a few years to establish him as an actor. The movie was mega blockbuster New Delhi, one of the earliest big successful movies of Mammootty released in the year 1987. After that Vijayaraghavan didn’t look back and he became indispensible part of Malayalam cinema, particularly with the beginning of 90’s and till now, he is active in the industry playing character roles.

 

After New Delhi, his next big break was Ramji Rao Speaking where he played villain’s role. His character name was Ramji Rao. This blockbuster movie was the debut movie of many actors and its director duo – Siddhique Lal and this movie has been later remade to Hindi titled Hera Pheri (2000). He appeared in its sequel as well, Mannar Mathai Speaking, reprising the same role. Though in the early 90’s, he played negative shades most, later on he concentrated on to character roles as well. A few of his memorable roles include - C.I.D. Moosa, Commisioner, Lion, Chotta Mumbai, Memories, Witness, 1921, Kalal pada, Purappadu, Mayavi, Nammude Naadu , Daddy cool, Parallel college, Meleparambil aanveedu, Dhruvam, Bharathchandran I.P.S., Vietnam Colony , Rudraksham , Sainyamand Raavanaprabhu.
