Vijayalakshmi (Kannada Actress) Biography

Vijayalakshmi is a popular south Indian actress who predominantly works in Kannada movies. But she is a Tamilian, born in Chennai. But she is settled in Karnataka, where she spent her childhood. Associated with cinema in the late 1990s, she has acted over 25 Kannada films, apart from a few Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. Yet she has been a part of hit Tamil movies like Friends, Soori and Boss Engira Bhaskaran. She is best known for Hanuman Junction in Telugu film industry.  She has done 40 films in total.

 

She debuted with ace director T. S. Nagabharana’s Nagamandala opposite Prakash Raj in 1997. The movie based on a folk tales spread in Karnataka, received numerous prestigious awards and it was a big break to Vijayalakshmi’s acting career. Same year she was seen in Jodi Hakki, scripted and directed by D. Rajendra Babu. She made her Tamil debut through Poonthottam in a supporting role and was also seen in megahit, Friends released in 2001. She has also appeared in Malayalam movies – Punjabi house and Devadoothan. She played the pivot role of youngster Sneha in Malayalam classic Devadoothan, where she shared screen space with Mohanlal. Later she became a regular actress of Kannada, though she occasionally appeared in Telugu and Tamil movies.

 

The actress has appeared in a few television serials and also anchored a game show Bangarada Bete, on a Kannada channel. She was engaged to Srujan Lokesh in 2006. However the marriage was broken one year later. Before her engagement to Srujan Lokesh, she was harassed by an assistant director who wanted to marry her. It was just after her father’s death and the actress attempted suicide. Now the actress is single.
