Vijayakumar (malayalam Actor) Biography

Vijayakumar is a Malayalam actor who plays lead and supporting roles since 1990s. As an actor, he is best known for the roles in Traffic (2011), Thalasthanam (1992), Kottappurathe Koottukudumbam (1997) and Masterpiece (2017). Noted south Indian actress Arthana Binu is his daughter. In the 1990s, he played many lead and parallel lead roles in many multi-star cast movies, and was quite active in the era too. In his second innings, he moved to supporting roles, and also did a few negative roles on Malayalam screen.

Vijayakumar hails from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Kottapuram of Vizhinjam is his native place where he spent his early days and did primary school education. His father Henry was a film producer of Malayalam and his mother's name is Dora. He was born on May 8, 1968. He has two brothers and two sisters. He married Binu, and the couple had two daughters. But the couple was legally separated and the daughters were brought up by Binu. One of their daughters, Arthana Binu has played lead roles in Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil movies, and a popular actress now.

Vijayakumar completed his schooling from St. Mareyes School, Lourdes Mount, Vattappara, and graduation in Commerce from M.G College, Thiruvananthapuram. After studies, he got involved with cinema, starting off with small roles since 1987. He has also acted a child artist in Maadhavikkutty (1973). Thalasthaanam in 1992 gave him a major breakthrough, and he later appeared in a series of movies throughout 1990s.

It was a time when small budget movies with ensemble cast made profits at box office, and Vijayakumar was one among the actors of the decade who got benefitted with this trend. Some of his noted works in the 1990s include - Uppukandam Brothers, Shudhamaddalam, Kulapathy, Karma, Hijack etc. Due to some personal issues, he took a break from acting and currently he is working in full swing. Sherlock Toms, Puthan panam, Thrishvaperoor Kliptham etc are among his recent releases.

In 2010 he was arrested and jailed for three months for a fraud case. He promised a good job for a lady in some foreign country and took 5 lakhs from her. Later he didn’t fulfil the promise and she filed the case. Vijayakumar had already returned 3.75 lakhs and when the last cheque of 1.25 lakhs bounced, she filed the case.
