Vijayakrishnan Biography

Vijayakrishnan is a Film director, writer, film critic and film historian belonging to Malayalam language. He has written numerous significant works on Malayalam cinema and has won multiple awards for them. In 1992 he received National award for Best Book on Cinema for the book - Chalachitra Sameeksha. He is a recipient of Kerala state award for best book on cinema 6 times and was most recently awarded in the year 2013 for the book, Indian Cinemayude 100 Varshangal. It includes on hat-trick as well - Chalachitrathinte Porul (1984), Marunna Prathichhayakal (1985) and Karuppum Veluppum Varnangalum (1986), followed by Classicukal comalinadakangalakunnathu (2005) and Indian Cinemayude 100 Varshangal (2013). His contributions include television serials and children’s movies as well.

Vijayakrishnan was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala in 1952. He is married to Asha since 1985. He is a well-known film historian in India and has also served as a member of many film award committees. Currently he serves as a member of the Indian Central Board for Film Certification, the Secretary of the Kerala Children's Film Society, and President of CONTACT. Apart from film works, he has also authored many fiction works, critics’ works, Children’s literature and research works.

He is also known for his contributions to children’s literature as well as children movies. In 1986, he directed an experimental and fantasy film - Nidhiyude Katha, which starred Sadu, Murali and Jalaja in lead roles. His 1989 movie, Kamandalu won Best Children's Film at Kerala Critics’ award. In the 1990s and 2000s he has directed many television serials which won him awards like Thirumanas Award, Nana Miniscreen Award and Challenge Foundation Award.
