Vijay Patkar Biography

Vijay Patkar is an Indian actor who works in supporting and character roles in movies, television and theatre, both in Hindi and Marathi. He is better known as a comedy actor and has done comic roles in Bollywood movies like Tezaab, Golmaal 3, Wanted, Tees Maar Khan, Apna Sapna Money Money, All the Best: Fun Begins, Daddy Cool and Singham. He has been associated with cinema since late 1980’s and Tesaab is his debu movie, where he played Anil kapoor’s friend. He is always regarded as one of the flexible actors onscreen. He is a film maker also and has directed 7 films and produced 3 till now.

 

Patkar was brought up in Girgaon, Mumbai. He was born on 29th May 1963. He completed his education in Union High School and Siddharth College. Then he joined job in Bank of India, through artist quota. He has been associated with plays since college days. One act play 'Majhi Pehli Chori' was his debut stage play and N. Chandra gave him the first opportunity to movies, through blockbuster Tezaab, released in 1988. He has been inspired a lot by great artist, Charlie Chaplin and it reflects well in his acting and ads too. He has won IIFA award for best model for his Cello Tape TV commercial.

 

For the Maarthi play, 'Halka Fulka Natak', he won Marathi Natya Parishad award. In 2011, he produced Marathi movie 'Ek Unad Diwas'. In 2012 Patkar directed and produced Marathi language movie 'Lau Ka Hath’. He also directed the movie, Riwayat, based on the subject of female foeticide in India. As a film actor, he has also appeared in movies, Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam, Dhamaal, Ek Krantiveer: Vasudev Balwant Phadke, All the Best: Fun Begins and Right yaa wrong.
