Vijay Menon Biography

Vijay Menon is a noted actor associated with Malayalam big screen and small screen, who portrays character roles. He is also a noted dubbing artist who received Kerala State Film Award for Best Dubbing Artist for the movie Melvilasom in 2011. Started as a lead actor with the highly acclaimed film – Nidra, he later appeared in over 100 feature films. He has been a part of several offbeat movies and has also appeared in other language films. He is associated with Doordarshan since early 1990s through television serials, and has played notable roles as supporting actor as well as negative roles. Some of his notable film roles in the recent times include – Salt mango Tree, Jamna Pyari, Zachariyayude Garbhinikal, Spirit etc.

Vijay Menon hails from Ottapalam of Palakkad district. He was born to Sudhakara Menon and Lakshmi and is the second among their three children. He schooled from prestigious Lawrence School, Lovedale, Ootty and also studied direction course from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. His dream was to become a director. But he became an actor! He approached the great director Bharathan to work as his assistant. But the director casted him in the lead role for his next movie – Nidra! This classic film released in 1981 marked his acting debut and he was paired with actress Shanthi Krishna. Bharathan’s wife, KPAC Lalitha also played a pivot role in the film. The film went on to become a huge success and Vijay stayed here as an actor.

Though he started off with a great film in a lead role, later he did many supporting roles since 1980s and has completed 35 years in the industry. Vijay Menon has also excelled as a television actor and dubbing artist. In 2015 he dubbed for Rahul Dev for Mohanlal starrer Laila O Laila and K. C. Shankar for Samrajyam II: Son of Alexander. He is the enigmatic voice behind Narendra Shetty in Suresh Gopi starrer F.I.R.
