Vidhubala Biography

Vidhubala is a former Malayalam actress, most active in the era of 1970’s and 1980’s. She appeared in all Malayalam and Tamil language movies in both leading and supporting roles and at present active with Malayalam small screen. She is the daughter of Indian magician K. Bhagyanath and sister of cinematographer Madhu Ambat. She is married to film producer, Murali Kumar who has produced a few of her movies. At present she is the star host of Malayalam family reality show - Kadhayallithu Jeevitham on Amrita TV, which has been widely accepted by families.

Vidubala was born to famous magician K. Bhagyanath and Sulochana in 1954. She started her film journey in the mid-1970’s. She is a graduate in psychology and a trained dancer. During her childhood she assisted her father in his magic shows all over India. She also knew the secrets of the magic. She entered film industry as a child artist at the age of 8. Her debut movie was ‘School master ‘. In 1973, she played lead heroine role in a Tamil movie titled, 'Ponnukku Thanga Manassu' for which she got Best Actress award. 1974 movie, College girl marked her successful beginning in Mollywood and she was introduced by Hariharan. She was casted opposite the leading star then, Prem Nazir. Very soon she became a star and acted in more than 100 Malayalam movies till 1981. She quit film industry at the peak of her career, when she already had many projects in hand.

She has played lead role opposite almost all leading stars of late 1970’s and early 1980’s including - Madhu, Vincent, M. G. Soman, Mohan, Jayan and Kamal Hassan. She was most popular with Madhu. Her next-door girl image was well appreciated by audience. Her noted Malayalam movies are Chuvanna sandhyakal, Liza, Lizzy, Alibabayum 41 Kallanmarum, Avalude Ravukal, Bhumidevi Puskpini aayi, Ummachu, Taxi driver, Radha Enna Penkutty, Pichipoo, Chirikkudukka, Kuttavum Sikshayum, Itha Ivide Vare, Rajahamsam, College girl, Abhinayam, Ashwatma and Agni.
