Vetrimaaran Biography

Vetrimaaran is a talented young director of Tamil cinema at present, who received two National awards for his second directorial venture, Aadukalam which gave National award for best actor to Dhanush also. In 2011, he became a unique film personality who received two national awards for one movie - National Film Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay for Aadukulam. The film accumulated six awards at the 58th National Film Awards. He made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed Polladhavan (2007) and his third directorial venture Udhayam NH4 (2013) too was a commercial hit. This movie marked his debut as a film producer and actress Ashrita Shetty made her dream debut too

Vetrimaaran was born on September 4, 1975 in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. His father Dr. V. Chitravel was a veterinary scientist and his mother Megala Chitravel is a noted novelist. Later he moved to Ranipet where he completed his schooling. Then he moved to Chennai to fulfill his dream as a cricketer. He did his higher secondary education at YMCA College of Physical Education in the hope of becoming a cricketer. But he failed through to get through the selection of State Team. Then he enrolled himself in Loyola College, Chennai, to study English literature in 1994. In 1999, he discontinued his studies at Loyola College to pursue a career in film industry.

He also did an elective short term course of "Television presentation" by the Loyola Department of Visual Communication in 1995, while he joined the college to pursue a degree. It was during this time when he got interested with movies and direction field. 2007 marked his successful beginning as a film director. Polladhavan not only was a critical success, it also earned him Vijay Award for Best Director. His upcoming movies are Kaaka Muttai, Eetti and Poriyaalan, where he appears in the role of a film producer. He also writes scripts and dialogues for movies.
