Venu Nagavally Biography

Venu Nagavally – The silent hero of Mollywood is often known as Devdas of Malayalam Cinema. When Devdas was remade to Malayalam, he did the role of the lost lover Devdas. Not only that, we see him either as a lost lover or silent lover of college campus in almost all his movies. He was not among those who are famous for witty dialogues, dancing steps or teasing heroes. Instead he conquered the college campus of 1980’s through the wonderful roles he played as a silent lover, a patient and calm person and often a lost person. The movie Devdas contributed a lot to Venu Nagavally’s image.

Seeing his calm and patient eyes, no one can even assume that he can write comedies and scripts with political touch. Apart from acting in about 50 movies, either as hero or supporting actor, he has directed and written scripts for a few movies too. The script of Kilukkam – the block buster comedy of Priyadarshan-Mohanlal-Jagathy Srikumar team was penned by Venu Nagavally. Not only that, he has directed a few movies as well. He debut as a director in 1986 for Sukhamo Devi and after that he directed a few more hit movies like Ey Auto, Lal salam, Kalipattam, Swagatham, Agnidevan, Kizhakkunarum pakshi and Sarvakalasala. He directed 12 movies of which all movies except Swagatham , Ayira para and Bharya Swantham Suhrithu, he casted Mohanlal as the leading hero.  But in Sukhamo Devi, Venu’s directorial debut, Lal played supporting role.

As a script writer, he has written scripts for Ey Auto, Vishnu lokam, Kalipattam, Kizhakkunarum Pakshi, Ardhamand many more. He started his film career as a hero; he debut through Ulkkadal in 1978. His role as an actor was remarkable as hero of 80’s. Some of them include Ulkadal, Chillu, Shalini ente koottukari, Devdas, Ente Ammu Ninte Thulasi Avarude Chakki, Arante Mulla Kochu Mulla, Panchavadi palam, Pakshe, Adaminte Variyelluand many more.

In 2010 September 9, he left the world due to liver problems at the age of 61, with many of his works incomplete. He was a genius with an excellent command on control of acting, script writing as well as for directing. But still people remember him for his deep eyes with hidden emotions as deep as blue seas.
