Uttara Baokar Biography

UttaraBaokar is a popular actress known for portraying character roles in movies and television soaps. In 1988 she received National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for Ek Din Achanak. She is also a veteran stage actress who acted in lead and supporting roles. She played the lead role of Umrao in "UmraoJaan" and Mena in Mena Gurjari. Othello, Tughlaq, Mukyhamantri etc are some of her noted plays. She has also directed one stage play - SandhyaChhaya in 1978. She is a recipient of SangeetNatakAkademi Award for her excellence in acting in Hindi theatre for the year 1984.Doghi (1995), RenukaDaftardar, Uttarayan (2005), Shevri (2006) & Restaurant (2006) are some of her noted Marathi film roles. 

1987 Doordarshan series Tamas marked her television debut and she is now concentrated on to her television career. JassiJaissi Koi Nahin, Rishtey, Utharayan, Jabb Love Hua,KashmakashZindagi Ki and Udaan are some of her noted television works. She is a graduate of National School of Drama for the year 1968, under EbrahimAlkazi. She has also done a few Bollywood movies like Hum KoDeewanaKar Gaye, Dor, Aajanachle and 8 x 10 Tasveer. She has completed 4 decades in the field of acting. Most recently she was seen in the comic flick - EkkeesToppon Ki Salaami.

This actress brought a touch of realism to her roles on stage and the lead role of UmraoJaan is the milestone of her theater career. This role is regarded as her masterpiece. After working in Mumbai for a long time, she shifted to Pune in the 1990s. Later she concentrated on to television serials.
