Unnikrishnan Namboothiri Biography

Unnikrishnan Namboothiri is a noted character artist of Malayalam cinema known for comic roles. His chemistry and onscreen romance with Subbalakshmi for 2002 Dileep starrer Kalyana Raman, made him a popular actor among Malayalam audience. They together have appeared in some movies. Famous music director Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri is his son-in-law. He is director’s favourite for playing grandfather onscreen. His debut movie – Desadanam (1996) was well noticed for his acting talents. Since then he is the popular grandfather of Malayalam onscreen.

This multi-talented actor is a late discovery of Malayalam cinema. He entered film field at the age of 76 and has completed almost two decades in cinema. He acted in 15 movies till now. Either guest role or full-fledged, this actor has made a mark, irrespective of the role length. Pokkiri Raja, Photographer, Loud Speaker, Madhura Nombara Kaattu, Sadanandante Samayam, Pokkiri Raja, Raapakal, Mayamohini, Kaikudunna Nilavu, Kaliyattom, Oral mathram and  Angene Oru Avadhikkalathu are a few among his onscreen roles. He was also seen in Tamil hits like Kandukondain Kandukondain, Chandramukhi and Pammal K. Sambandam.

Unnikrishnan Namboothiri hails from Payyannoor. He was associated with communist activities during younger days. He formed a relationship with AKG in those days. His illam (house) was a resort to many communist activists, at a time when communist activities were banned in the country. On the instruction of AKG, he left foreign clothes while studying in school and accepted Khadi clothes and was also associated with communism. IN 2012, he celebrated Navati (90 years celebration).He wakes up at 4 am in the morning. Till 6.30 he spent time by chanting mantras. He reads two or three newspapers a day and spends time to pick flowers for pooja.
