Unni Mary Biography

Unni Mary is a former south Indian film actress who was active in the era of 1980’s. She has been equally successful in glamorous roles as well as simple house wife roles. She acted in all south Indian languages and mostly known for sexy roles. Thus she was the heartthrob of youths of 70's and 80's. In Telugu and Tamil movies she worked with the screen name Deepa. She debut silver screen as a child artist, later moved to character roles and during 1980’s, she became a lead heroine and has worked opposite Prem Nazir, Vincent, Mammootty, Mohanlal, Soman, Lalu Alex, Sukumaran, Ratheesh etc in Malayalam movies. She has also been a part of Malayalam ‘Vadakkan pattu’ movies released during that time.

Unni Mary belongs to Kochi, Kerala. She entered films in the late 1960’s as a child artist and has also won the title ‘Little Miss. Cochin’ at a younger age. During teens, she played the role of Lord Krishna in "Sree Guruvayoorappan'. At the age of 15, she started appearing as the lead heroine of Malayalam cinema. She appeared in movies based on Vadakkan Pattu themes like Kannappanunni and Thacholi Ambu and her early successes include many mythological movies as well. Later she moved towards glamorous roles and action movies and became more noticed as well.

She played lead roles opposite Mammootty in movies like Puli varunen puli, 'Thinkalazcha Nalla Divasam' and 'Arappatta Kettiya Gramathil'. Films like 'Nagamadathu Thampuratty', "Kanamarayathu' and 'Jeevitham Oru Ganam' are known for her good roles. She played supporting role in Malayalam blockbuster – Chitram. She acted in 'Unaroo', the only Malayalam movie directed by Maniratnam. Aval Viswasthayayirunnu, Belt Mathai, Minimol etc are other noted roles. She married Rejoy in 1982 and the couple has one son.
