Thyagu Biography

Thyagu is a Tamil film actor known for comic roles. He is most noticed for portraying the role of a politician in Suriya starrer ‘Singam’ series. His supporting role in Rajinikanth starrer Kuselan is another noted work. He has been active in the film industry since 1980s and throughout 1980s and 1990s he played grey shaded roles most, mostly villain’s sidekick. He is the grandson of legendary violinist Kumbakonam Rajamanickam Pillai. He is also an active politician who has been associated with DMK political party for 28 years. He quit the party in 2011. The reason cited was Karunanidhi's broken promise of honouring Thyagu's grandfather with a postage stamp during his centenary celebration.

Thyagu entered film industry in the 1980s as a supporting actor. He played memorable roles in movies like Oru Thalai Ragam, Palaivana Solai, Aagaya Gangai and Pakkathu Veetu Roja in the early 1980s. In the late 1980s he played secondary villain’s roles in most of movies and he continued it in the 1990s as well. During this time, he could get only lesser number of memorable movies and he struggled in the industry despite spending so much time here. With the era of 2000s he received some meaty roles and he often got opportunity to portray comic roles, and he became successful too.

He joined the DMK, attracted by the writings of Kalaignar. He is a member of DMK since 1983 and quit the party in 2011. He felt that he has not been honoured by the party despite spending so much time here. He is likely to join AIDMK.
