Swathi (Tamil Actress) Biography

Swathi is a south Indian actress associated with Tamil cinema. She has been quite active in the 1990s and 2000s. Currently she is settled with her family life. She has been successfully paired with Ajith and Vijay in the mid-1990s and is best known for the movies - Deva and Vaanmathi. Paired with Ajith Kumar in the year 1996, Vaanmathi ran in full-packed houses and completed 175 days at box office, thus becoming the most profitable movie of her career. She was successfully paired with Vijay in Deva (1995), Selva (1996) and Vasantha Vaasal (1996).

Swathi is a native of Hyderabad. She was frequently paired with Vijay in the mid-1990s. Though quite active and became successful in the mid-1990s, she very soon returned back to hometown to complete her studies. She turned down many good offers as well. Later she was seen portraying character and second lead roles and cameo in movies like Mappillai Gounder, Thulli Thirintha Kaalam etc. In 1998, she played female lead opposite Karthik in Sundara Pandian. Heera Rajagopal was also seen playing a pivot role in this movie. She played female lead in 1999 Anu Mohan Film – Annan, where Ramarajan played the male lead.

Slowly she moved to character and second fiddle roles – Housefull, Ponvizha, Chokka Thangam, Unnai Thedi, Asathal, Sivan, Yogi etc. In between she played female lead opposite Mithun Chakraborty in two Bollywood films back to back - Justice Chowdhary and Qurbaniyaan and both bombed at the box office. Though seen in small roles, she was active in film industry till her marriage happened in 2009 to a software engineer, Kiran. Now the couple has one son and she is busy with her family. It is unlikely that she will return back to movies.
