Swarupanand Biography

Swarupanand was a religious leader and guru who lived during the period, 1 February 1884 – 9 April 1936. He was known in different names such as “Shri Swami Swarupanand ji Maharaj”, "Shri Nangli Niwasi Bhagwaan Ji", "Hari Har Baba" and "Second Guru". His real name is Shri Beli Ram Ji, born in village Teri in Kohat district, now in Pakistan. This religious guru was of Shri Paramhans Advait Mat lineage. He created an order of sannyasins in northern India and founded several centres with the purpose of disseminating his master's teachings.

This Hindu saint was born in Kohat district. He took birth on the most auspicious day of Basant, in a reputed Vasudeva family at Teri in Tehsil Banda. His birth place, village Teri now belongs to Pakistan. Beli Ram is his real name. The people of Teri were impressed by his divine glory and extraordinary acts, right from his childhood. He was initiated into the sanyasas in the early 1900s in Teri. It was done by his guru Advaitanand Ji. Later Swarupanand succeeded his guru. His guru first instructed him to meditate in Agra. He meditated far away from town in a jungle under the neem tree, as instructed by his second guru (second stage).

Many residents of Agra got attracted to him and placed eatables before him. However he didn’t accept it and ate only boiled neem leaves. Slowly his body reduced only to a skeleton. On 2nd October 1919, some followers and devotees applied Saffron on his forehead in recognition of His having succeeded to the spiritual throne as second master. In 1935, he moved from Punjab to Delhi. Years later Shri Swami Swarupanand Ji became a Spiritual Successor of his guru.
