Swapnil Rajshekhar Biography

Swapnil Rajshekhar is an actor associated with Marathi entertainment industry. He is regular with Marathi TV shows and movies, and is also known as a theatre actor. He is also a writer. As a television actor, he is best known for the roles - Netaji Palkar in Raja Shiv Chhatrapati and Yashodhan Inamdar in Kulaswamini, both aired on Star Pravah. A few more noted television roles include - Khel Mandala, Veer Shivaji, Swapnanchya Palikadley, Asava Sundar Swapnancha Bangla, Ajunhi Chand Raat Aahe, Jai Malhar, Char Divas Sasuche etc. He is one among the celebrated stars of Marathi mini screen. He also participated in the reality show, Zhunj Marathmoli on ETV Marathi.

His full name is Swapnil Rajshekhar Bhutkar. He was born on 31 May 1976 in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He is the son of famous Marathi actor, Rajshekhar, also known by the name Janardan Bhutkar. Rajshekhar has worked in several Marathi movies and a few Bollywood movies like Shalimar released in 1978. To pursue a career in films, Rajshekhar during his initial days stayed with his sister and he frequently visited Jayaprabha Studio in search of an opportunity. Once he met Bhalaji Phendharkar who offered him a small role in 'Akashaganga'. He changed his name from Janardan to Rajshekhar. As his father has already worked in films, Swapnil too nurtured film dreams and was supported by his mother, an actor of movies and theatre.

Swapnil started his film journey as a child artist at the age of 7. Tamasgeer was his debut film followed by Fukat Chambu Baburao. He got attached to theatre at the age of 20. atrat Karti, Prema Tuzha Rang Kasa?, Niyam ani Apavaad etc are some of his early works as a stage actor, and he later directed the plays - Ratrani, Kshan, Girhaik, Chaukashi, Rikshawala, Trailer etc. Swapnil started his television career with Doordarshan in 1995 and appeared in some Marathi serials like Kondmara, Shejar, Bhoomiputra, Reshimgathi etc. He also worked as a model in the mid-1990s.
