Swanand Kirkire Biography

Swanand Kirkire is a popular lyricist of Bollywood during present times. He is also a television serial writer, script writer of movies, assistant director, playback singer and dialogue writer. He is most popular for his lyrics of 3 Idiots, Parineeta, Rajneethi and Hazaroon Kwahishein Aisi. Till now he has won two National awards for best lyrics, but not earned any Filmfare yet. However he was able to get two nominations – for 3 idiots and Parineeta. ‘Bahti hawaein’ of 3 Idiots and Bade me tha dum of Lage raho Munnabhai are those movies that helped him to get National awards. His other works include Lage raho Munnabhai, Bol bachchan, Bombay talkies, Well done abba, Robert, Jai santhoshi maa, Khoya khoya chand, English Vinglish, OMG, Yeh saali Zindagi, Singham, Johnny Gaddar, Striker, Lafengey parindey, Peepli live, Pa, Barfi, Vicky donar, Laaga chunari mein daag, Rajneeti, Ekalavya: The local guard and Welcome to Sajjanpur. He has also written a few songs for Amir Khan’s television program, Satyameva Jayathe.

 

As a singer, he has contributed a few songs to Bollywood. Most popular songs of Swanand Kirkire as a playback singer are Aye Sajni and Man re bawra of Hazaroon Kwahishein Aisi, Jaanu na and Suno kahani of Ekalavya, Ishq barsa of Rajneeti, Raat hamari toh of Parineeta, Maula Tu Malik Hai  of Inkaar, Seher of Gulaal, Hum Toh Apni Bawdi Lenge  of Well done Abba, Ala barfi of Barfi, Maula Ajab Teri Karni Maula  of Striker, Navrai Majhi of English Vinglish, Title track of Khoya khoya chand, Monta re of Lutera and Al izz well of 3 Idiots. He has composed music of one song of Striker - Maula Ajab Teri Karni Maula, the song that he has done playback singing too.

 

As an actor, he has worked in Chameli, Ekalavya, Maximum and Hazaroon Kwahishein Aisi. He has also written the dubbed dialogues of Rajnikanth’s Tamil hits – Sivaji and Ethiran. Apart from these two movies, he worked as dialogue writer of Vidu Vinod Chopra’s Ekalavya and Hazaroon Kwahishein Aisi.

 

He was born in a musical family, his parents being trained classical singers. He has graduated from National school of drama before working in movies. He started his work as assistant director for movies, Chameli, Calcutta mail and Hazaroon Kwahishein Aisi.
