Sujay Saple Biography

Sujay Saple is an accomplished theatre artist. He is known as an independent actor, director, choreographer and lighting designer, associated with Mumbai based ‘The Company Theatre’ for more than 10 years. Atul Kumar is the leader of the team and this group includes some leading personalities like Kalki Koechlin, Namit Das, Ranvir Shorey, Neil Bhoopalam, Rajat Kapoor, Puja Sarup etc. As a stage actor associated with the group, he is best known for the plays - Voices, Noises Off and The Con Artist directed by Atul Kumar. He also co-directed one of the plays with Atul - Smell. Saple is also known for conducting workshops across India and abroad. 

He also works as a freelancer with other theatre directors and often choreographs shows and plays. He is also associated with Maharashtra’s International Residency for Theatre Research & Performance. He conducts theatre workshops in schools and colleges, to promote this form of art and is associated with Youth section of EVAM, Maharashtra. He started conducting workshops along with Atul Kumar, since his college days. Sujay is now a permanent member of The Company Theatre. He is a winner of many theatre awards including Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards for best lighting design for the play, “Numbers in the Dark”. 

While at college he once attended the workshop conducted by Atul Kumar and he got hooked up. He got associated with Atul for many months and ‘Voices’ was the first full-fledged production Saple got associated with. He has never looked back ever since. His early years were with Atul Kumar and The Company Theatre, though he later took up assignments as a freelancer. Apart from direction and acting, he is quite interested in visual works.
