Suja Varunee Biography

Sujatha, also known as Suja Varunee is a noted Tamil actress who owns numerous item songs of Tamil in her credit. She debut big screen in the year 2002 with the Tamil movie, Plus Two, at the age of 14. Later she appeared in numerous movies in supporting and character roles and has also appeared in a few item numbers. She strived hard in the film industry till she signed two major movies -Amali Thumali and Thappu Thalangal in 2012. These two movies proved to be the breakthrough of her career and after that she received many roles to do lead heroine role. Amali Thumali, Kadhal Theevu, Vaa Deal, Pencil, Ali Baba Okkade Donga and Appuchee Gramam are her upcoming movies. She appeared in her early movies with name Suja and once she changed her name to Suja Varunee in 2012, she got major roles.

Her real name is Sujatha, born in Chennai. It was cinematographer Rajarajan, who was her neighbour, who introduced Suja to film world while she was a school student. She was only 14 when she acted in her first movie ‘Plus Two’. She played lead role in this movie. However the movie was a flop and didn’t make any impact on audience. Subsequently she got only supporting roles and item songs in the industry. Varnajalam and Masala are her noted roles inKannada.

As an item girl, one of her earliest hits was ‘Sona Sona’ of the Malayalam movie, Ben Johnson. The song was sung by Kalabhavan Mani and was a chartbuster. Subsequently she started appearing in item songs and got success as well. Ponmudipuzhayorathu and Black Cat are her other noted songs of Malayalam. She reduced her weight to about 10 kilograms and was seen in a new avatar. Thus she started getting major roles in movies as well. She played lead role opposite Ali in ‘Ali Baba Okkade Donga’.

In 2017, Suja took part in the reality television show Bigg Boss hosted by actor Kamal Haasan.
