Subramaniam Siva Biography

Subramaniam Siva is a well-known Film Director associated with Tamil cinema. He shot to fame with his debut flick as a director – the commercial hit, Thiruda Thirudi in 2003. The film starred Dhanush and Chaya Singh in lead roles and was well received. In 2004 he made his Telugu debut with Donga Dongadi (remake of Thiruda Thirudi) and later completed three more Tamil films – Pori (2007), Yogi (2009) and Seedan (2011). After a hiatus of more than 7 years, currently he is working on a Tamil project, Vellai Yaanai. He also wrote dialogues for Amma Kanakku (2016).

 

Subramaniam Siva marked his debut with Thiruda Thirudi in 2003. It was a runaway hit at box office, and the songs too turned chartbusters. The following year he remade the film to Telugu titled Donga Dongadi. The movie starred Manoj Manchu and Sadha in lead roles, and launched Manoj Manchu to movies. The movie was received with positive reviews and critics, who praised the good performances of the lead pair as well as the film direction. The movie fared well at the box office. After the success of Telugu flick too, Siva continued with Tamil movies only.

 

Pori (2007) featuring Jiiva and Pooja was his next release. This action comedy film was rejected by audience, and the film bombed at box office. His fourth project Yogi (2009) had a delayed release. It was an uncredited remake of 2005 South African Academy Award-winning film Tsotsi, and opened to positive reviews. In 2011, Siva also wielded the megaphone in the Tamil drama film, Seedan. It was the Tamil remake of Malayalam fantasy film, Nandanam. Dhanush made a guest appearance in the film.
