Sriranjini Biography

Sriranjini is a film actress known for supporting and character roles. She works predominantly in Tamil cinema, apart from a few Bollywood films. She made her film debut in the year 2000 with Madhavan starrer Alaipayuthey, where she was seen as Madhavan’s sister-in-law. She was seen in Alaippayuthey Kanna song whose Seemandam-Valakaapu ceremony is performed. Later she was approached mostly for sister and mother roles. Some of her noted performances in the 2000s include – Aniyan, Mozhi, Thottal Poo Malarum, Abhiyum Naanum, Priyasakhi, Thimiru etc. With early 2010s she moved to mother roles and has played mother of hero/heroine in numerous films. She was most recently seen playing Divya's mother in 2016 film - Bangalore Naatkal.

 

She was an athlete during her school days and received a film by actor Lakshmi, but didn’t accept it due to disapproval from her parents. But later she started accepting ad films. Vivek and Co was her first ad, followed by Kumaran Silks, Horlicks and Visa which made her a popular face on television. Sriranjini stepped into showbiz with a TV serial directed by K Balachander in the late 1990s. The series was “Kasalavu Nesam”, followed by “Jannal”, Pushpanjali” and “Archanai Pookkal. She entered film scene through Maniratnam’s Alaipayuthey in 2000.

 

When she entered films she was already married, which gave her a new direction to acting and her supporting roles in Mozhi and Abiyum Nanum were well appreciated. She has two sons and she is well-settled with her family life now. She played Madisar Mami, as mom to Sada in Aniyan (2005). The role clicked and since then she is doing mother roles, though she is still in her middle ages. She has also done a few Telugu films, apart from one Bollywood film – Gautham Menon’s Ek Deewana Tha.
