Sreekanth Biography

Sreekanth was an actor associated with Tamil cinema since 1960s. He has portrayed over 200 character roles and has shared screen space with almost all legends of Tamil cinema. Started with character roles in 1960s, in the second phase of his career he played villainous roles most and regularly appeared in Kamal Hassan and Rajinikanth movies. Vennira Aadai in 1965 was his debut movie, where he played the role of Dr. Chandru. He played the title role in the National award winning movie of 1974 - Dikkatra Parvathi, where he shared screen space with actress Lakshmi.

Srikanth was employed in the American Consulate before he entered movies. He was a close associate of actor Venniradai Moorthy. Vennira Aadai, directed by C. V. Sridhar marked his acting debut in 1965. The movie is better known as the debut movie of actress Jayalalithaa. Vennira Aadai Nirmala and Vennira Aadai Moorthy also made debut through this movie. Naanal directed by K. Balachandar was one of his noted roles in the 1960s. He accepted a villain role for the first time for the movie, Aval in 1972. Since then he started accepting negative shaded roles as well. In 1974, he played lead role of Dikkatra Parvathi.

Though he shared screen space with all legendary actors of Tamil cinema – Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Jaishankar and R. Muthuraman, he never shared screen space with MGR. C. V. Sridhar was his mentor and he regularly appeared in his movies, apart from K. Balachander and A. Bhimsingh. He played the role of a rebellious son in Sivaji Ganesan starrer Thanga Pathakkam. It was one of the most memorable roles of his career.
