Sreebala K. Menon Biography

Sreebala K. Menon is a noted author and film director associated with Malayalam cinema. She won Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award 2005 for 'Best Humor' for her book 19, Canal Road. She marked her film debut with 2015 film, Love 24*7, starring Dileep and debutante Nikhila Vimal in lead roles. Sreebala received Best Debut Director at Kerala State Awards 2015 for Love 24*7. She has worked as an assistant director of Sathyan Anthikad for many years since 2000 before her film debut. She assisted the director in the films, Innathe Chinthavishayam, Vinodayathra, Rasathanthram, and Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka, and also worked as associate director for Bhagyadevatha.

After completing her Master’s in literature, she trained in science and development communication at the C-DIT, Thiruvananthapuram. In 2004 while she was living single at a flat at the state capital, she sparked off a controversy when she approached the State Women's Commission accusing residents' association office-bearers of her flat complex to indulge into her privacy. As she was staying single, visitors to her flat were asked to write names and details in a book, which Sreebala considered to be a breach of her privacy.

This accomplished writer found filmmaking to be an art, and started her career in film industry as an assistant director under Sathyan Anthikad. She completed post graduate diploma in development communication at C-DIT, as she took film making seriously. She completed a documentary and short film as a part of C-DIT course. She started off with documentary films. She dreamt to make films on social issues and chose the life of TV reporters to be the theme of her debut flick – Love 24*7. Earlier she made one documentary film - Accamma Cherian that was screened at the Orma Film Festival. The short film – Panthibhojanam was a take on caste system, which received positive reviews. She wrote the script (Love 24x7) for a short film, which she later expanded as a feature film. The movie was a box office hit.
