Sophia Paul Biography

Sophia Paul is a successful female producer associated with Malayalam film industry. She heads production house - Weekend Blockbusters, which has given many blockbuster hits to Malayalis in the recent times. Her production house co-produced Bangalore Days and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol. Her production venture - Kaadu Pookkunna Neram was premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival in 2016. Sophia Paul established the production house in 2014, and Bangalore Days, the first venture. Currently Weekend Blockbusters is gearing up for their fourth release, an untitled film with Fahadh Faasil in the male lead.

Born in Kerala, Sophia Paul is currently settled in Dubai. She is a native of Kavanad in Kollam district, and a commerce graduate. Her father Antony Thomas was in marine business. Her mother Agnes Antony is a housewife. She doesn’t own a filmy background. However she was married to a family with filmy links. Her father-in-law used to run two theatres in Kollam and her brother-in-law owns a production house. And the family as whole is - great movie buffs. That’s why Sophia got interested in this field.

She got married at the age of 18, when her father was bedridden. She was doing graduation at that time. Her husband, James Paul, is a businessman, and the couple has two sons. Anwar Rasheed has been instrumental for the family joining the filmy line, who suggested them to invest money for Bangalore Days. The movie directed by Anjali Menon was a huge blockbuster.

Being an ardent fan of Mohanlal, who regularly watches his movies on television got an opportunity to associate with him through 2017 production venture, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol. Being a promoter of good films, she produced Biju’s Kaadu Pookkunna Neram, which received critical acclaim. The movie has already been screened at many film festivals. She was with the crew during the entire shoot of the film in Achankovil to learn the basics of business. In her own family business too, she has faced many ups and downs, but with the new venture, she has finally succeeded as a successful film producer.
