Shubhashish Bhutiani is a well-known film director, actor, screenwriter and script writer associated with Bollywood. He is a national award winning filmmaker who won National award – best jury mention for his work, Mukti Bhawan in 2016. The movie won many accolades, nominations and highly positive reviews. It is his only full-fledged feature film. He scripted and directed his first film – Kush when he was just 21, while he was doing undergraduate course at the School of Visual Arts, New York. The film was screened at many film festivals, shortlisted at the 2014 Academy Awards and won him more than 25 awards too. He has also appeared in one English film The Road Home in 2010.

Shubhashish Bhutiani was born on 20 July 1991 in Kolkata, West Bengal. He grew up in a small Himalayan town and schooled at Woodstock School. Later he involved with theatre and wrote plays, and was also a stage actor. His interest in theatre in different forms prompted him to join School of Visual Arts in New York. His thesis film, Kush was screened at many international film festivals, and received Orizzonti Prize for Best Short Film at Venice International Film Festival. He was just 21 when he directed this short film, which was shortlisted at the 2014 Academy Awards and has won over 25 awards all over the globe.

He marked his Bollywood debut with 2016 highly acclaimed Hotel Salvation (Mukti Bhawan). It was a comedy drama which tells the dilemma of a son who was forced to take leave from his job to accompany his father to Varanasi, the holy city. The film received four nominations at the 63rd Filmfare Awards, including Best Film (Critics). The movie also received extremely positive reviews from critics, and won many awards at different film festivals.
